Kanji Forge is a free web game for English speakers who want to read Japanese kanji. Instead of memorizing shapes, you build each kanji from its parts and see why it means what it means, often through English words and ideas you already know.
- Meaning Quiz: pick the English meaning of a kanji.
- Radical Fusion: join two parts to forge a kanji (亻 + 木 = 休, a person resting by a tree).
- Kanji Build: complete two-kanji words such as 学生 (student) and 先生 (teacher).
It covers the kanji taught in Japanese elementary school, level by level, and works offline once opened. Each explanation of where a kanji comes from is checked against dictionary sources, and contested origins are marked as such.
